I was born in Durban South Africa but grew up in Johannesburg City, where my parents who were avid nature lovers, took the family outdoors as much as they could throughout my childhood. Since I was a child I dreamed of being a Game Ranger, and since these early days had a particular love for the wilderness and especially for the elephants. I spent many years in the Addo Elephant National Park in the Eastern Cape where most of my photographs were taken, and where my photography moved from being a hobby to a profession. It was also in the Addo while at the Gorah Elephant Camp that my passion for writing emerged. I had several documents published and eventually my first big coffee table documentary, Elephant Footprints. While it took several years to gather material for this book, it was published in 2007, and soon followed great success. This success opened up a door to a whole new world. I have loved the years I have spent in the bush and have enjoyed the challenges it has brought to my life but I have decided that it is time for new scenery and new experiences. In February 2008 I will be taking a break from this environment and will be moving to London where I hope spend a lot of my time developing my photography in a new world, and writing books about my experiences as a game ranger in Africa. I plan to travel Europe and other countries of the world, and see new places, thus opening up my horizons from here both in writing and photography. My aim is always to just live life to the absolute full, and gain as much as I possibly can from every experience, and every place I may go. "Work for me must be a way of life rather than a job...then I never have to work a day in my life! " |
